Not a great deal of rain overnight at Doncaster and the going remains the same so far. Poet's Place looks like being a warm order on the back of his cosy win a competitive handicap at Haydock and if the same horse turns up again he should win. However there are reasons for him not being at his best, he is a big horse and may not want to let himself down on this ground, he hasnt got the handicap experience of the others and of course there is a lot of luck needed in these races especially with 22 runners.
Highlighting a few down the bottom of the betting market I would have to be looking at Striking Spirit EW at 25/1 for handicap wizard Dandy Nicholls, Monsieur Joe at 28/1 and Judge N'Jury also at 28/1. All 3 of these have shown good form at some point this season, Striking Spirit was 2nd in the Wokingham off a 5lb lower mark but has that offset by a 5lb claimer and this trip of 5 1/2 f could be right up his street, Monsieur Joe has been running well of late and is an up and coming 3yo sprinter for Walter Swinburn, whilst Judge 'N Jury is an established sprinter that has been coming back into form of late. There is also Masamah who has won his last 2 in good style and he is available at 20/1, so there is plenty available if you want to oppose the fav.
Of course there isnt just the one race today and it would be great to see Dandino win the St Leger for the 12,000 Elite owners of which I am one !
